This fall just got even more interesting for those looking to purchase a handset. Not only is there the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S3, and the Galaxy Note 2 to choose from, but Samsung might introduce another member to the smartphone wars: the Galaxy S3 Mini.
An invite sent out by Samsung invites the press to an October 11 event. The invite is in German, and translates to "something small will be really big." The invite also asks the public to "get ready for a little sensation."
The invite also has the Galaxy S logo smack in the middle of it, indicating that the new device should be a Galaxy S handset - most likely the Galaxy S3 Mini.
The Galaxy S3 Mini has been rumored to have been in the works, but this is the first inkling from Samsung that it has seriously considered a smaller version of the popular Galaxy S3.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone has a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display. The Galaxy S3 Mini's rumored size is to be 4 inches - the same as the Apple iPhone 5. This would give consumers a better range of choices for those who don't like a massive 4.8-inch screen.
Website SamMobile also believes that the Galaxy S3 Mini will feature a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, down from the Galaxy S3's 8-megapixel camera.
Other than those speculations, there isn't much more to go on, but Samsung should give us the nitty gritty soon enough on October 11.
A Galaxy S3 Mini would certainly be a welcome addition to a market where Android phones seem to believe that "bigger is better." If the new device is indeed the Galaxy S3 Mini, would you purchase it over the iPhone 5?
