"Minecraft" for Xbox 360 and Xbox One will be featuring a new DLC skin pack, based on the popular TV series "The Simpsons".
GameSpot reported that Microsoft, which is the company behind "Minecraft", and 20th Century Fox, which is behind the TV show, made the announcement on January 15, that the DLC will feature character skins for the whole Simpsons family, namely Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie. It will cost $1.99. There will also be 19 other characters from Springfield Elementary School who will appear in the game. There is no confirmation yet on whether Grimes will be included in the character list. Although they were not named, fans expect some popular ones to be present, such as Milhouse, Nelson and Ralph. 4J Studios is responsible for developing the DLC.
According to Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, they succumbed to the many Twitter requests of fans to feature "Simpsons" characters to Minecraft. For now, Xbox users can expect the DLC to be available late in February but PlayStation gamers might also have a chance to enjoy the characters later on. Microsoft hinted that PlayStation users should "stay tuned" for further announcements on availability on their platform.
Spencer said in a report by Christian Post, "We have an active community of more than 17 million die-hard Minecrafters on Xbox Live enjoying the wide range of downloadable content on Xbox, and they have been clamoring for us to bring Simpsons characters to the game."
"Minecraft" by Mojang has been well-received by gamers since it was first launched. Microsoft bought Mojang for $2.5 billion in 2014 and continued to develop "Minecraft" in the past few months. So far, "Minecraft" has broken 12 world records, including "Most Popular Game Beta", "Best-Selling Indie Game" and "Most-Played Xbox Live Game", among others. Over 18 million copies of the game have been sold.
Wired reported that the "Simpsons" skins DLC will be useful for Xbox users because of the limited offering available on Xbox Live. Xbox users cannot create their own player avatars in "Minecraft" as conveniently as users who play the PC version of the game. Other things to expect with the two-dollar DLC include having the ability to dig mines, punch trees and recreate the whole Springfield community. Fans of both the game and the TV show will definitely have countless hours of fun building.
More details about the new skins DLC are expected before the end of January.
