HTC One M8 users are now getting a taste of the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update. According to the latest update provided by GSM Arena, HTC One M8 users in Malaysia are the latest recipients of the new Android update.
Check out the screenshot here. The report noted that the update is 650MB. Based on the screenshot, the Lollipop update also gives users new multitasking and lock screens and some changes to the notifications interface. Meanwhile, nothing has changed on the HTC Sense user interface as it is still the same Sense 6.0.
GSM Arena said that those who own the Google Play Edition of the handset already got the update last month while those with the Developer Edition only received it a week ago. Note that the over-the-air update are being sent automatically to the devices. However, if you haven't received it yet, you can do so manually. Just go to "Settings" then to "About" then check out "Software."
The announcement was even made by HTC Product Management Vice President Mo Versi himself. "HTC One (M8) Unlock and Dev Owners! We have received TA from Google on Lollipop + Sense 6. OTA will be out starting tonight. #HTCAdvantage," he tweeted on January 13.
An earlier tweet from Versi stated, "M8 GPE Owners! We just received TA from Google!! I am very grateful for all your patience. OTA to start at noon on 12/5 (working to pull in)." In another tweet, Versi said that the OTA for the HTC One M7 GPE has also arrived.
The Taiwanese firm indeed stayed true to its word as it rolled out the update earlier than expected. HTC earlier announced that it would roll out the update "within 90 days of receiving the final software from Google."
As for other HTC devices, Christian Post speculates that the HTC One M8 EYE, HTC One E8, HTC Desire EYE, and HTC Butterfly 2 are set to receive the update next month. Users of the HTC One M8 EYE in China, HTC One E8 (China), HTC One M8 Mini, HTC One Max, HTC M7 Dual SIM, HTC Desire 816, and HTC Desire 820u, meanwhile will receive the update in March.
Last to get the Lollipop update are the HTC One Mini, HTC One M8 Mini (UL), HTC Desire 510, HTC Desire 610, and HTC Desire 820s, the report said. The update will arrive to these users from March to April. The report however acknowledged that these speculations are still unverified. Meanwhile, it also said that the more updated Lollipop 5.1 OS is expected to be launched in February. It added that HTC has already received the code for the said Lollipop version from Google. However, it is still unknown when will it hit HTC devices.
