The next PlayStation 5 console is expected to have "enormous" changes when in comes to its design and specs, What Culture's Rob Thubron says. Future consoles would not only feature graphical improvements. They are also expected to get designs we've never seen before and we've never imagined before.
Note that the difference between the release dates of the current PS 4 and its predecessor PS 3 is eight years. So if we are to assume that the next PS console, PS 5, will also get this same time frame, then the next console would be released in 2023. By that time, we may expect huge advances in the field of technology. It is therefore expected that these changes will manifest in the future game consoles.
So what are these changes we may expect in the future consoles?
Thubron says that he sees the PS5 in 2023 to be completely wireless. These future consoles are also expected to have a "self-contained power unit" which can enable the user to charge the device through a "powermat" for about 10 minutes. However, that very small amount of charging time could still translate to a whole day of gaming.
Second, it is expected that PS5 consoles would be portable and smaller than it is today. It would not be surprising if PS5 consoles in the future would be hand-carry. Future PS5 are expected to be the size of the current phablets which people can carry anytime anywhere. People no longer have to be at home to play their consoles.
Future PS5 consoles are also expected to be battery-enabled. The next generation of consoles are also expected to feature a gestural interface so that gamers no longer have to press buttons. Also it would be possible that the next consoles would include "virtual reality headsets."
Lastly, it is expected that the future PS5 console would no longer require gamers to purchase physical copies as games in the future are expected to be available through download.
"In the future, it's a probability that every home will have super-fast fiber-optic online connections; giving even more justification for the video game and console companies to start making games download only. With less overheads when making the games, will the prices come down? It's a possibility. A lot of companies do prefer to have download only versions of their products, as this allows more control over them. It'll certainly help erode the second hand market, something they've been wanting for years," Thubron says.
Note that these are all just predictions and speculations as we are not even sure what technological advancements may arrive in the future. What do you think of these new features? Do you think these new cool features would be included in the next PlayStation consoles? What other features do you have in mind? Share us your thoughts!
