During the Consumer Electronics Show or CES 2015, Dell featured a number of laptops and tablets, particularly the Dell XPS 13, which is slated to go after the MacBook Pro, also set to release later in 2015.

Dell made it clear that the new laptop was going up against the MacBook Pro of Apple. Dell quoted Scott Stedman, Northside Media Group founder, in a news release, saying, "I recently switched from a Macbook Pro to Dell XPS 13 and couldn't be happier."

Business Insider reported that the Dell XPS 13 laptop is designed with a 13-inch screen and a display resolution of 3200 x 1800 pixels. The device features some of the slimmest bezels to date, making the laptop appear smaller than the MacBook Air, even though the latter also has the same screen size. There is also a version with a 1920 x 1080 resolution screen available at a lower price. At a glance, the display of the Dell XPS 13 is stunningly beautiful and high-resolution images appeared to be very detailed.

Redmond Channel Partner wrote that the laptop weighs only about 2.6 pounds and includes fifth-generation Intel Core processors with solid state drives.

As for its battery life, Business Insider also reported that the Dell XPS 13 is able to provide up to 15 hours of battery life, which is better than the 12 hours provided by the MacBook Air. In terms of keyboard firmness and comfort, Apple has the advantage because of its keyboard's aluminum build. The new Dell laptop has the price advantage. The 13-inch model costs $799 while the 11-inch MacBook air retails at $899.

Breathecast reported that Apple might release a new MacBook Air in the middle of 2015, in time for Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference. The new laptop will reportedly feature 12 inches of screen with a Retina display, an edge-to-edge keyboard, fewer ports, slimmer keys, and adjustments in the speaker position. A thinner chassis might also be featured to further remove weight from the product. There are talks that the upcoming MacBook Air may also include the USB Type-C connectors, which are known to be significantly faster than the USB 3.0 ports. The new connector, together with a headphone jack may be the only ports that people will find in the new device. The new laptop may also be available with a new fan-less design, together with Core M or Intel Haswell processors that are also fan-less.

Apple has yet to announce the big date of the MacBook Air's official release.
