A video showing the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update running on the HTC One M7 was spotted online. Could this mean that the device will soon get the new Android update? Or has it rolled out in certain areas already? Watch the video here:
The 28-second video was uploaded by a Chinese user on YouTube last January 8. To date, it has earned more than 56,000 views and at least 150 likes. The video did not give any details about the release of the update. It also did not indicate where it got the Lollipop update. It also did not tell us when the update will arrive.
In the video, we get a glimpse of how the device will look like with the new Android update and with HTC's user interface Sense 6.0. We also see the new multi-tasking screen arranged like cards stacked on each other. Apps no longer being used can be closed by clicking the "X" button. The same also applies to when closing tabs when using the Google Chrome. It was also noticed that a two-finger swipe down shows users a redesigned Quick Settings menu.
Phones Review said that the Lollipop update is expected to arrive to HTC users this February, noting of the 90 days promise of the company. Note that HTC earlier told its users that the update will be delivered 90 days after the final build has been released. To date, only the Google Play editions of the HTC One M7 and M8 have received the Lollipop update.
Techno Buffalo meanwhile reported that HTC's current flagship device, HTC One M8, is expected to get the update in just a week or two weeks. It cited the tweet of LlabTooFer which said, "Latest news from HTC kitchen. Final M8 Android L (WWE EU) build should be in range 4.16.401.x... ETA - 1-2 weeks..."
LlabTooFer also announced on Twitter that the HTC One M7 will definitely get the new Lollipop update, specifically the 5.0.2 build. However, it revealed that this might be the last major update for the said device.
Android Headlines' John Anon says the bad news was definitely not surprising. Here's what he said, "This won't be totally surprising to some android users, as the M7 was released in February 2013 and as such, the rollout of Lollipop by February this year will mean the pesky 'two-year guaranteed updates' comes to an end. After the two-year marker, OEMs are no longer required to further update devices and instead it is up to their good graces if they do or not. This latest tweet suggests that HTC are planning on ending the M7 updating on the first Lollipop update it receives."
Could it really be HTC One M7's last update? HTC has yet to issue its statement regarding these rumors.
