All this talk about the iPhone 5 may make it seem like the only smartphone to get, but if anything, this year has proved that there isn't. Samsung gave the iPhone its first real run for its money with the Galaxy S3, and now the South Korean-based electronics manufacturer is looking to continue to that streak.
AT&T just released a statement detailing three new Samsung smartphones that the carrier will introduce in the coming months, including the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 2.
The other two smartphones announced were the Galaxy Express and the Galaxy Rugby Pro.
Out of the three, the Galaxy Note 2 is definitely the star of the show. The powerful phablet looks to be the last big handset release of the year. Samsung is even holding a special event on October 24 to promote the Galaxy Note 2 in the United States.
With a 5.55-inch HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 4G LTE, and the S Pen stylus, the Galaxy Note 2 "provides PC-like processing power and advanced features like Popup Video, new Gallery views and great gaming performance in a truly pocketable device," according to AT&T.
This is the first time that AT&T has officially released a statement that mentions the Galaxy Note 2.
The Galaxy Note 2 was first unveiled by Samsung on August 29, however Samsung gave no details about carriers, pricing, or a release date in the United States at the time. The company only recently came out saying that the Galaxy Note 2 should be available by mid-November to U.S. consumers. Exact dates are to be left up to the carriers, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular - the same five that helped launch the Galaxy S3.
Carrier U.S. Cellular has already begun taking pre-orders on their website only. The other three carriers have not formally mentioned the Galaxy Note 2 yet.
The Galaxy Express is intended to be an entry-level 4G LTE smartphone with a 4.5-inch screen, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Galaxy Rugby Pro has apparently been designed to military 810g specifications, allowing it to be submerged in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
