It looks like that users of Samsung Galaxy S5 in the US will finally get a taste of the new Android L 5.0 Lollipop Update.
According to the January 4 report of Gotta Be Mobile, there is a significant progress in the roll out of the new Android OS as more and more regions in the world are finally getting it. And it seems that Galaxy S5 users in the US are now inching closer to receiving the much awaited update. It notes that the update might finally be on its way toward US this month.
In the report, it cited Sam Mobile which revealed a few days ago that the update has finally showed up on S5 users in Malaysia and Russia. It says that the update came with build numbers G900FDXU1BNL3 and G900FDXXU1BNL9 in Malaysia and Russia, respectively. It also stressed that the update also includes the same features introduced on the update received by S5 users in Europe. The update earlier has reportedly arrived in Poland and South Korea.
Sam Mobile speculated that this might mean that US users will eventually get it and that a worldwide roll out of the update might finally be on the way. This was backed up by Master Herald which reported that the update will not only roll out on the Galaxy S5 but on several other Samsung devices anytime this month. In its report, it cited an alleged Samsung employee named "SamsungRep2015" who revealed on Reddit that all Samsung stores have been notified via an email to prepare their devices for the Lollipop update.
"The e-mail was quite clear. It said that beginning January 2015, Android devices will start receiving Lollipop OS updates. It was followed by a series of instructions on how the update will roll out," Master Herald said. It also noted that the update will first roll out on the Galaxy S5 and will be followed by Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Edge. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S4, on the other hand, will be included on the "next wave" of Samsung devices getting the update. This will then be followed by Samsung tablets. Here's a copy of the alleged email.
"Unfortunately no dates in this email, however there has been some information that's slipped through the cracks," the alleged Reddit user said. "As far as materials go, there was some information on our internal website talking about how to approach talking about the Lollipop update, which didn't do much but say 'Tell them its coming soon." So not much help there, unfortunately, but time will come and it will be updated with new information."
Earlier, it has been reported that an official Samsung website Finnish edition slightly revealed which phones will get the Lollipop update. The list includes Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy Note 2 4G.
Samsung has not yet issued any statement or confirmation regarding the matter.
