Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update Begins Rolling Out To Asus Transformer Prime And Transformer Pad Infinity

It may have taken a while, but Google's newest version of their mobile operating system Android, Jelly Bean, is starting to make appearances on actual devices. Asus recently began distribution of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to its Transformer Prime tablet.

The Taiwanese-based electronics manufacturer also stated that the Transformer Pad Infinity will be receiving its own Jelly Bean upgrade soon.

Sweden was the first to receive the Transformer Prime tablet. Other regions should follow.

"We are pleased to announce that we will soon be rolling out the Android^TM 4.1, Jelly Bean update for both the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) and ASUS Transformer Pad Prime (TF201)," reads a Wednesday, September 26 post on Asus's Facebook page. 

There's still no exact date for U.S. and U.K. Transformer owners. 

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is still only used by 1.2 percent of Android-running devices, according to Google data compiled up to September 4. The much-older Android 2.3 Gingerbread remains the most popular, at 57.2 percent, and last year's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sits at 20.8 percent. 

Jelly Bean was introduced by Google way back in the early summer. The reason Android updates take so long is because after Google releases a stock, open-source Android version, companies then take the time to tailor it to their devices. If you have a carrier-tied handset, then it takes even longer, since Verizon or AT&T has to approve and then distribute the update.

But still, it's good news to know Jelly Bean is a priority for manufacturers. Samsung recently began introducing their Jelly Bean update for the popular Galaxy S3 smartphone, and named 15 other devices in line to receive it soon.
