Rumors are now pointing to a March release date for the alleged new HTC flagship device. But don't be surprised if the unveiling won't happen during the two big events slated in January and March.
According to Phone Arena, the unveiling might not happen during the two upcoming major tech events next year -- the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this January and the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain in March.
It noted that the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer already ditched the MWC this year so it would be likely that it might do the same next year. This year, it unveiled its latest flagship device, the HTC One M8, in March but not during the MWC. It showcased it at a separate event in New York and London.
In its report, Phone Arena cited the tweets of Upleaks, the one who leaked details about the new HTC flagship device. In its tweets, Upleaks said that the device might be unveiled in March but not during the MWC.
A December 16 tweet from Upleaks said, "I think HTC won't announce Hima at MWC2015, it may be announced at their special event..." It was followed by another tweet which said, "Hima - March."
Then, on December 3, Upleaks announced on Twitter the specs of the new device. The tweet said, "HTC Hima:S810 2.0GHz*4+1.5GHz*4, 3GB RAM, 5" FHD, VoLTE/CA/LTE Cat.6, 20.7MP(front 13MP or UltraPixel 4MP), 2840mAh, Android 5.0/Sense 7.0:)"
The post said the HTC One M9 or as Upleaks calls it, HTC Hima, will have Snapdragon 810 as its processor, a 5-inch display with FHD resolution, and a 13 megapixel or UltraPixel 4MP front camera on board, coupled with a 20.7 megapixel main camera.
In another tweet, it announced that HTC is currently working on the new RE Camera 2 which has the codename "GC2" but it is unlikely that the RE Camera will be launched with the new HTC Hima. It will also allegedly come with 3GB of RAM and a VoLTE/CA/LTE connection. The phone is also likely to get the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update and Sense 7.0. It will also have a 2,840mAh battery, according to the leaked specs.
Another tweet from Upleaks revealed that the device will come in at least three colors -- gray, silver, and gold.
An International Business Times report meanwhile said that the new HTC device might be as thin as the new Apple iPhone 6 at 7.1 mm. The report added that the new HTC phone is rumored to have a 5.2-inch screen. It also suggested that the device will likely get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and will come with an improved camera with bigger lens and higher megapixels capability and with a more powerful battery. As for storage, IBT expects the device to get 3 GB RAM and a 64 GB or 128 GB capability.
