Rumors are spreading that LG will soon unveil its latest flagship device, the LG G4.
Gospel Herald reported that the device might be unveiled in May 2015, citing the International Business Times. However, a separate Trusted Reviews report places the release to a less specific one -- "summer." Master Herald also wants to play safe predicting the phone's release date in mid-2015.
Gospel Herald noted that the first of the LG G series was unveiled in September 2012. This was followed by the LG G2 in August 2013, and then by the G3 in May this year.
These reports about the rumored LG G4 came after LG released a statement posted on its website about the new narrow smartphone LCD panels it is developing.
"LG Display, the world's leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it has developed a 5.3-inch Full HD LCD panel for smartphones with the world's narrowest bezel at 0.7mm. With this cutting-edge display, LG Display continues to lead the market in high-resolution large-size displays for mobile devices," the statement read.
LG Display's IT/Mobile Development Group Head and Vice President Byeong-koo Kim said in the statement that the reason behind these thin bezels is that there is an increasing trend for phones with narrow bezels. LG said that it is using Neo Edge technology and Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology to keep the narrow bezel.
LG also said in the statement that the product has already been mass produced and released in China last November.
Techradar said that like its predecessor, LG G3, the alleged new LG G4 will definitely showcase a device with super thin bezel. It said that the LG G4 might use this new product it developed, leaving the new device with just less than a millimeter bezel on each side. Its bezel on each side measures 0.7 millimeter. The LG G3 has 1.15 millimeter bezel on each side. It's pretty amazing, right? It's a "phone with absolutely no bezel at all," Techradar says.
The Rem said that the LG G4 might get a 5.7 inch display with HD -IPS +LCD display. It added that it will possibly house any of these processors: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, Qualcomm Snapdragon 802, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, or Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. It also said that the new device's main camera could have megapixels that fall between 13 and 17 megapixels. The front camera on the other hand might be a 3 megapixel camera or a 4 megapixel camera. As for the storage, the report said that it might have 32GB and 64GB variants. As for the RAM, it might get a 3GB or a 4GB one.
Meanwhile, an iKnow Today report says a different thing. It claims that the new LG device will either be a 5.5-inch or a 5.9-inch display that has Super AMOLED screen that is protected by either a sapphire crystal glass or Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It might also have a 2K or 4K screen resolution. The device might be powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 or Snapdragon 810 processor. It might also get a 3500 mAH battery. iKnow Today estimates its price to be around $650-$700.
LG has yet to confirm these rumors.
