"Grand Theft Auto 5" fans decided to show their pain in a creative way by featuring a short video that explains what have become of a few "GTA 5" characters remaining on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as next generation consoles surfaced.
In a report by VG247.com, the video was produced by gamers Sonny Evans and 8-BIT BASTARD. The fictional story began with the credits and the caption: "A short film about last gen" was shown. The video title "Left Behind" followed and then a solemn piano tune started to play in the background.
The opening scene showed glimpses of the lone character, called "The Stranger", wearing an all-black attire and with blonde hair. The text narration started, "On November 17, GTAV was released for new generation consoles. But what of those left behind?"
The character proceeded to narrate in an Australian accent, "People call me The Stranger. I once went by a different name when there were actually people around. The streets are empty nowadays. The ascension happened weeks ago. First, my neighbors, my friends, and then even my family left. At first I thought my soul was not pure enough but apparently ascending comes at a price... about 450 dollars for a PlayStation 4 and a copy of GTA V."
The Stranger continued, "Now I'm stuck in this wretched world. I felt hundreds maybe thousands of people make the step, while others, others I could not help. I feel there's one person still out there... one final man in need of help to get to the other side. If I can get him, I can finally rest." The piano playing continued in the background as the character wandered in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world.
The Stranger drove along the barren streets to Los Santos Del Perro Pier where he met a guy with a Mohawk who is close to going crazy due to loneliness. The guy rode a rollercoaster on his own in an empty theme park before talking to The Stranger. The two discussed why nobody is left in their world, hoping that the cloud server was only down temporarily. Finally, the guy realized that the next generation console is out and decided to buy a PS4, disappearing immediately.
In the end, The Stranger is, again, all alone saying that when his soul is pure enough and he has 450 dollars, he might perhaps, also ascend.
Kotaku.com reported that the melodrama was a good way of imagining how old generation characters feel whenever next gen consoles are launched.
