"Minecraft" fans will be delighted this holiday season to discover that the game developer, 4J Studio, will be unleashing a Christmas-themed mash-up pack.

"Minecraft" is a sandbox video game where players break and position blocks to build structures and stay protected against monsters. Players can also explore, gather resources, engage in combat, and try a variety of game modes using the complex crafting system. The game was originally created by Swedish company Mojang and then bought by Microsoft in November 2014.

Inquisitr reported that similar to "Minecraft" mash-up packs released in previous years, the Christmas DLC, dubbed the "Festive Mash-Up Pack", allows gamers to fully change their personal worlds in the game. The latest downloadable content will create a winter environment to suit the holiday season, complete with snow and lit Christmas trees. There will be new and original Christmas textures.

Overall, 36 new avatar skins will be available where players can dress their Minecraft figures and make these appear as traditional Christmas characters like Santa Claus and Christmas elves. Even the original soundtrack of the game has been substituted with holiday tunes by C418 to help people get more in sync with the season. The Festive Mash-Up Pack will also alter the appearance of enemies and textures in Minecraft.

Xbox.com reported that the "Minecraft Festive Mash-Up Pack" will be available for download beginning December 10 for $2.99. Prices might change depending on the region. Shacknews.com wrote that the pack might become obsolete by January 2, 2015. The holiday DLC will be available for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Xbox Wire cited that other platforms will also be added later on. According to Roger Carpenter of Microsoft Studios, the Christmas mash-up pack DLC will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita soon.

Carpenter tweeted, "Festive Mash-up for non-Xbox? Yes! pretty sure if you read this news.xbox.com/2014/12/games-_... it says 'and soon on other platforms' It means soon."

The last mash-up pack released by 4J Studios for Minecraft was in November 2014, dubbed the "Star Wars Classic Skin Pack". There were 55 new avatar skins provided for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 platforms, based on the same report by Inquisitr. Before that, mash-up packs featuring content from other popular video games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Mass Effect were also made available for Minecraft. Roger Carpenter, however, did not reveal whether the Star Wars skins will soon be available on other platforms, too.
