Android smartphones and tablets are not the only ones getting an update before the year ends. This as Google announced that the Android Wear has finally gotten its second feature update.
"Deciding what to wear is a really personal thing-it's one of the ways you show people what you're about. Wearable technology is no different, so Android Wear offers a wide selection of apps and watches to suit your taste. It's about expressing who you are, however you want, right on your wrist," Android Wear's Director of Engineering David Singleton said in a statement posted on Android's official blog on Wednesday, December 10.
The update comes with a new bunch of watch faces powered by Watch Face API and several other improvements, Singleton said.
Starting Wednesday, wearers can now download the new watch faces on the Google Play Store. Check it out here.
Some of the new designs are Pac-Man, Rebecca Minkoff, Craig Ward's Shadow Clock, ustwo, Hugh Turvey's Xogram, Be@rbrick, The Hundreds, Surfline, Un Petit Monde, Raw Vegan Blonde, Despicable Me, Nail by Me, Google Santa Tracker, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Plants vs. Zombies, Planets, 500px, Porsche, Behance, Red Bull wallpapers, Facer watchface, Golden Beauty, Specialized Bikes, Odyssey Premium, Muzei Live, Speeds, Battery, Scuba Diver, and Angels Watch Face.
Google said users can expect more watch faces in the weeks and months to come as the new Watch Face API has also been made available to developers.
Also, Google announced that they have updated the Android Wear app on the wearers' phones to make browsing, downloading, and shifting watch faces easier. However, Google said that these updates are still set to be rolled out over next week so you need not to worry if you haven't seen them yet.
To date, there are six watches included in the Android Wear collection. These are the ASUS ZenWatch, the LG G Watch, the LG G Watch R, the Moto 360, the Samsung Gear Live, and the Sony SmartWatch 3.
"Some are circular, others are square. Some are traditional, others are sporty. And that's exactly the point. With different shapes and styles, it's really easy to make your watch your own. So by all means: wear what you want," Singleton was quoted in the statement.
Aside from the new watch faces, the new feature update, Arstechnica said, would probably result in easier navigation. With the new update, users can now recover dismissed notification cards, view recently used actions by tapping the watch face, view various settings quickly just by swiping down on the screen, and view a Watch Battery page where they can see how much battery each app takes in. Lastly, they can also now easily block notifications directly from the watch. The update also features two new brightness modes -- the theatre mode and the sunlight mode.
