Now that iOS 6 is out in the wild, consumers may be daunted by the wide range of new features available, and so Latinos Post has collected a number of hidden features to help better prepare users as they forage into unknown lands. While the following additions may not all represent sweeping changes to the operating system, iOS 6 refines both the interface and functionality of Apple's devices.
Business Day/Practical Use
No one likes waking up to the screeching beeps of a generic alarm clock tearing at their ears. Now with iOS 6, users can set a song of their choice as their wake up alarm. Once the work day begins, some may be daunted by an overflowing email account. To help manage inboxes, the OS has moved the "Mark as Unread" button from the subject field to the flag found at the bottom of an e-mail. Also new to e-mail is the ability to insert photos into drafts by tapping and holding the blank area until a menu appears. New employees may want to include their contact information in their e-mail signatures, and iOS 6 now allows people to set different sigs for each account that the device manages. While preparing for a day filled with meetings, users can also make calendars public and allow contacts to subscribe.
Entertainment
iOS 6 has plugged a few nagging problems media-related problems from prior versions. In the past, book junkies could not view their "Reading List" unless an internet connection was available. This function can now be used offline.
iTunes Match is a function that collects music from nearby devices and allows users to access everything from their smartphone. However, previous iterations lacked filters, something that Apple has remedied. Tracks and artists can now be deleted from sight, cleaning up unwanted media.
Settings/UI
In order to streamline the user interface, app can be downloaded in the background as users dig around the App store, and no longer backs out to the home screen. Those interested in fiddling with Bluetooth functionality will now find its settings front and center in the Settings app. Also in the Settings app is a Privacy tab and an option to limit advertising. Lastly, users will find an option access Passbook from the lockscreen in the Settings menu.
Sharing
New to iOS 6's social media offerings, Apple devices running the OS can now tweet and post Facebook statuses from the Notification Center. Safari has also been retrofitted with social media and sharing in mind. Users can upload videos to YouTube by downloading the site's app in the App store and selecting share after tapping on the video in the Photo app. Photographers can now stream pictures with their contacts without posting them on the internet. Additionally, the Panorama mode, which allows people to take 360-degree shots, is available to iPhone 4S and fifth-generation iPod touches as well as the iPhone 5.
Misc
Some smaller additions include a "New" banner for freshly downloaded apps, the ability to zoom out of the Maps app in order to see the planet earth, and the ability to adjust the volume of turn by turn directions in the Settings app.
iOS 6 is now available for owners of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, the 3rd-gen iPad, or 4th-gen iPod Touch, and will be prepackaged with the iPhone 5 at launch on September 21.
