Samsung Galaxy S5 and Moto G users are now enjoying the taste of the new Android L 5.0 Lollipop update.
The Christian Today reported that the new Lollipop update has already rolled out on Samsung Galaxy S5 in some parts of Europe, particularly in Poland. This is not a surprise, the report said, noting that the company's handset products have always been on top of the list of the devices that usually get OS updates first.
Furthermore, Sam Mobile revealed that the availability of the new OS on the device was quite a milestone as it was the "first time the Korean giant has delivered a major Android software upgrade in such a short period of time." It said that the new Lollipop update was delivered only 31 days after Google released the Lollipop code to AOSP. Right after Poland, it is believed that other neighboring European countries will soon be the next ones to get the update.
Those Samsung Galaxy S5 units with G900F model are the first one to get the update. They can get the update through the Samsung KIES application and Over-The-Air, the Christian Today said. It added that they are required to also get the new LRX21T Android 5.0 firmware upgrade.
Christian Today said these devices bearing this model should have gotten notifications already. Once the Android 5.0 Lollipop LRX21T has been sent Over-The-Air, users must download and install the update. You can check it by going to Settings then to System then to About Device then to Software Update and finally to Update Menu. Then, download and install the new OS. You can also opt to update it by downloading the new OS through Samsung KIES.
CNET, meanwhile, believes that users in South Korea will probably be the next ones to get the Lollipop update, noting that this has already happened before. When the Android update rolled out on the LG G3, it started in Poland and was eventually followed by South Korea.
Samsung Galaxy S5 users in the US might have to wait until next year as it is still unsure when the update will hit the smartphones. The delay, Sam Mobile noted, might have been caused by the "usual" carrier certification.
Users of Samsung Galaxy S5 in Europe are not the only ones enjoying the wonders of the new OS. Android Authority said that the Lollipop update has finally been rolled out for the original Moto G in India.
"Despite the year change and subsequent model upgrade, Motorola is still continuing to deliver on the dynamic device. As of today, Lollipop is rolling out for the original Moto G in India, an impressive feat no doubt realized in part because of the stock-like experience the smartphone uses. This would actually be quite a fitting present as we approach the device's one year anniversary," Matthew Benson's report at the Android Authority said.
Some of the new features the new Lollipop update boasts include the new user interface Material Design, new fonts, new lockscreen, improved notifications, priority mode, and Smart Lock, Christian Today noted. Other phones that have previously received the Lollipop update include Moto X, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10.
