More Sony and LG devices are finally getting a taste of the much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
Sony on Wednesday, December 3, announced that the new Lollipop update will now finally roll out for Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition devices this week.
"The update for Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition will hit over-the-air and should be with you soon - next up, we're looking forward to bringing Android 5.0; Lollipop to the entire Xperia Z Series starting from the early part of 2015... so stay tuned for the latest!" the Japanese electronics giant announced in a statement published on its blog site.
Some of the latest treats the new Lollipop will bring to the device include a new and fresh user face "Material Design," and some new look notifications and lock screen. Sony also noted that their handsets are now performing faster and better with this new Android update.
Sony also noted that it has published source code and binary files to enable custom ROM developers to create AOSP Lollipop for Xperia Z Ultra devices. If you are interested, check the details here.
Aside from Sony Z Ultra, the Lollipop update is also rolling out on the LG G Pad 8.3. According to the Christian Today, the LG G Pad 8.3 is considered as the "first tablet" and the "second LG device" to get the new Lollipop update to date.
The Christian Today report also noted that current LG users may be luckier this year as the company has been known to be "one of the slowest Android OEM manufacturers" to release Google's operating system. This might be a sign that LG is quite taking the competition seriously and that it really wants to move forward.
Also this week, we saw the Lollipop update roll out in Samsung Galaxy S5 phones in Poland. According to Sam Mobile, this is the "first time the Korean giant has delivered a major Android software upgrade in such a short period of time," noting that it only took them 31 days to deliver it after Google released the Lollipop code to AOSP. Sam Mobile also said that the Lollipop update will definitely hit other European countries soon. However, Samsung Galaxy S6 users in the U.S. might have to wait a little longer due to the "usual" carrier certification.
Meanwhile, HTC users might also get the Lollipop update this week, the Christian Today said citing HTC's VP of Product Management Mo Versi. The site also revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition might also get the update pretty soon as leaked images of the new OS running on the device have circulated online. Samsung has not yet confirmed or announced anything about this.
