It was earlier reported that Samsung is embarking on a new project codenamed "Project Zero" for its new flagship device, Samsung Galaxy S6.
This was first revealed by Sam Mobile a month ago, noting that the project is somewhat a first for the Korean electronics giant as it has consistently named previous major projects with just a letter as codename. For instance, the project for the Galaxy S4 was named Project J, Project H for the Galaxy Note 3, Project K for the Galaxy S5 and Project T for the Galaxy Note 4.
But Samsung claims that the project was named such as it is trying to produce the new flagship device from "scratch" and on "an entirely new vision," Sam Mobile said.
Now, another exclusive report from Sam Mobile published recently indicated that the new device will be launched with a curved display variant which will be called Galaxy S6 Edge. It however noted that the device's name is not yet sure and may change in the coming months. Sam Mobile also said that it has not yet received any details about the other device.
"We don't have more details, but we're guessing the curved screen will be similar to that of the Galaxy Note Edge's and will bend at one side of the phone," to quote them.
There is also a possibility that it might be different, Sam Mobile said, noting of Samsung's earlier statement that it will continue to pursue phones with curved displays to compete with its rivals. The report also revealed that there might be a limited number of units to be manufactured.
The new project, Sam Mobile said, is Samsung's way to get back on track and to push sales following declining profits in the past. To date, no specs and further details about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge variant have arisen.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S6, the device dubbed as "the next big thing" is expected to get a Quad HD (2560×1440) display and 64-bit Exynos 7420/Snapdragon 810 processor, Sam Mobile reported. It is also expected to get a 16 or 20-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone is rumored to come in 32-, 64- and 128 GB models. The report also said that it might get Broadcom's new BCM4773 sensor chip.
According to PC Advisor, the device which is seen to be at 5.5 inches in size is also said to use Samsung's SuperAMOLED Technology. It added that it will likely get the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update as its operating system. A report from the International Business Times on the other hand said that the new device will have a "bendable design."
There is still no definite time frame for the release of the new device but noting of some claims and rumors, International Business Times reports that it would be released by February or by March next year.
