The original Galaxy Note did something many thought it couldn't: succeed despite its size. With a 5.3-inch screen, the Galaxy Note introduced the world to a phablet - something between a phone and a tablet. Now, more companies are taking note, and HTC is planning on releasing a phablet of its own for Verizon.
Website HTCSource claims that a trusted source has leaked them device details, so we decided to see how the HTC phablet's specs stack up against the other star of the phablet show - the Galaxy Note 2.
Keep in mind that neither one of these handsets have been released, and that the specs for the HTC handset (which HTCSource refers to as the HTC DIx, or Droid Incredible X) are coming from an anonymous source.
To start with, the U.S. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will retain its international specs, and feature a 5.55-inch HD Super AMOLED display at 1280X720 and a 1.6GHz quad-core processor. It will be 4G LTE, run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and come with the S Pen stylus, which Samsung claims will turn your Galaxy Note 2 into a digital notepad at your fingertips. The phablet will be available in 16, 32, and 64GB models and be the first quad-core LTE phone to hit the United States, and it looks like a powerful one at that too.
The same five carriers that launched the Galaxy S3 will be offering the Galaxy Note 2: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular.
But the HTC DIx is no slouch if the reported specs are true. Apparently, it will come with a 5-inch 1080p HD display that will apparently sport a whopping 480 pixels per inch. It should also come with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 16GB of storage, and 1.5GB of RAM.The HTCSource report also states that it is unlikely the HTC DIx will have active pen support, unlike the Galaxy Note 2.
The report doesn't mention an operating system, but it's safe to assume that HTC will be releasing it with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Verizon is the only one so far that is expected to carry the HTC phablet and neither Samsung nor HTC has released pricing or exact release dates for either device in the United States.
