Although it has not yet been unveiled or confirmed by Apple, many are suggesting that the new MacBook Air with Retina display will likely be one of the best MacBooks in the market to date.
IT Pro Portal reported that the new MacBook might be considered as one of the "best MacBooks" to be released so far due to its portability, battery life, and high-resolution IPS display.
The International Business Times also speculated that the new laptop might get a Touch ID feature which is currently available on some of its latest phones -- iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. It noted that "nothing might be possible" with Apple's innovations. But Gadgets Insider believes this feature may not make it to the new Macbook.
Mac Rumors in March reported that the new MacBook will have a new trackpad design. It also noted that it was KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who first predicted that a 12-inch slim MacBook with a Retina display is arriving.
"We expect the unprecedented 12-inch model will boast both the portability of the 11-inch model, and productivity of the 13" model. The high resolution display will also offer the outstanding visual experience of the Retina MacBook Pro. The offering will likely be lighter and slimmer than the existing MacBook Air to further highlight ease of portability in the cloud computing era. We think the form factor will showcase a much improved clamshell structure, and that it will redefine laptop computing once again following the milestone created by the MacBook Air," an October 2013 report of Mac Rumors quoted Ming-Chi Kuo.
The new MacBook Air with Retina display did not push through its reported October release date due to lack of supply of Intel's "next-generation 14-nanometer Broadwell chips," Apple Insider said. It also noted that the new MacBook will also likely not make it this Christmas. It is believed that the new chips will allow the device to have a "fan-less design with power saving advantages."
BGR, on the other hand, reported that Taiwanese site Industrial and Commercial Times said that the redesigned 12-inch Retina MacBook Air may likely be released by the end of the year after Intel was able to ship Broadwell Core M chips to Apple. However, BGR said that it personally believes that the new MacBook Air will not be released this holiday season.
BGR also confirmed Apple Insider's report that the main reason behind the delay of the new device's launch is the short supply of Intel Core M chips. The tablet for the Retina MacBook Air is being made by Quanta Computer which is based in Taiwan, it added. Other Apple products with Retina models include MacBook Pro, iMac, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPod Touch, iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Mini.
The Motley Fool recently revealed that it was announced during Intel's investor meeting that the Broadwell-U processors will be launched in spring next year. It cited in its report Intel's PC Client Group general manager Kirk Skaugen who specifically said that it will be out "early spring." It also speculated that these new Broadwell-U chips will probably replace the also newly-launched Haswell processors which are also present in the 2014 MacBook Airs.
It has earlier been predicted by University Herald that the new MacBook Air with Retina display will likely be unveiled in spring next year.
