Android L 5.0 Lollipop Release Date & Update: Top 5 Bugs and Fixes

While some are rejoicing for being the first ones to get the new Android L 5.0 Lollipop update, some are unhappy with it due to bugs and some issues.

Here are some of them:

Battery problems

Android has earlier announced that phones that will get the updated OS will definitely enjoy longer battery life through the new "battery saver feature" that can extend the use of the device by at least an hour and a half. The feature also allows users to see how much time is needed to charge the phone and how much time is left before it drains out.

According to Gizmodo, many users have been complaining in forums and blog posts about how fast their batteries get drained. It noted that this problem can be fixed simply by consulting the factory reset. It was also revealed that the issue may be caused by some apps. Apps that have not been updated recently tend to take up much of the battery life so users may want to get rid of these. With the use of the new battery saver feature, users can check which apps are draining the phone. Check this out on the Battery page in Settings.

Wi-Fi problems

As for those experiencing dropped internet connections, you can do the usual steps to get back on track. Gizmodo said that users can try to reconnect with their network by "forgetting the network" on the list. If this does not work, you can reboot your device and home router. It was also noted that some apps may cause these Wi-Fi problems so you can try to delete some of those outdated apps and just reinstall them.

Sluggish?

Some have also reported that their devices have been sluggish or crashing sometimes after the Lollipop update, Gizmodo said. The solution to this is also very simple. You can try Factory reset, or turning your device off and on. 

The sluggishness of the device may also be caused by some of the apps. So, better check which apps are outdated and delete them now. If it is really unbearable, then you can always switch back to Kitkat. 

Power menu

PC World said that some have been complaining about the new power menu. It noted that this is not a bug but it was really designed that way. In the Kitkat update, the power menu had several options including toggling airplane mode, ringer modes, and turning it off but the new Lollipop update now only gives the "Power Off" option. Some of these options have been transferred to the quick settings or volume toggle. Fixing it would mean putting the legacy options back and rebooting it.

Video playback

Gizmodo said that some video playback problems have been reported by some 2013 Nexus 7 users who had the Lollipop update. Most users have reported that they were having a hard time finding the video player software. You can fix this by clearing the cache of the player in the Apps page in the Settings. Again, you can also opt to initiate a factory reset.
