The iPhone 5 didn't wow anyone when it was officially unveiled on September 12 since the internet pretty much leaked all the details well ahead of time. Despite the anticlimactic release, it is still has analysts believing that it is poised to become the best-selling consumer electronics device of all time. And if you take a look at Samsung's upcoming plans, the Korean manufacturer is taking note.
Samsung should be releasing the Galaxy Note 2 by the end year, and could be adding a miniature version of the Galaxy S3 smartphone to its lineup this holiday season as well.
Dubbed the Galaxy S3 Mini, the smartphone should feature a 4-inch screen and a 5-megapixel camera, according to website SamMobile. The Galaxy S3 is expected to get an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in the near future, and there's a good chance a Galaxy S3 Mini would come with Jelly Bean pre-installed.
The 4-inch screen would make it the same size as the iPhone 5 and hopefully get rid of any size issues consumers find with the original Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S3's screen is 4.8 inches, which makes it great for using, but as a Galaxy S3 user myself, I can state it feels a little awkward to hold up to the ear and does fill up pocket space.
A smaller Galaxy S3 would give Samsung a more direct head-to-head competitor to play against Apple. There is no information on how the internal specs play out, but expect Samsung to try and keep it as close to the original Galaxy S3 as it can given pricing and size restrictions.
The iPhone 5 features a 4-inch Retina display with a resolution of 1136X640 that delivers 326 pixels per inch. It comes with the new A6 processor that will run Apple's iOS 6, which Apple says will introduce hundreds of new features including an improved Siri, Apple Maps, and Facebook integration. An 8-megapixel rear-facing camera will join a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for FaceTime in HD.
Oh yeah, and it's the first iPhone to utilize 4G LTE technology, so expect lightning fast downloads and streaming.
Would you hold off on getting an iPhone 5 if the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is real?
