At least two flagship devices are likely to be launched in March next year.
Aside from the Sony Xperia Z4, many are also eyeing the Samsung Galaxy S6 to be unveiled next year. Earlier, Latinos Post reported that many "unnamed sources" have claimed that Sony is preparing its new flagship device, Xperia Z4, for next year's Mobile World Congress in Spain. Now, it seems that Samsung does not want to be outshined.
Forbes reported that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will likely be announced in the first quarter of next year. It also predicted that the device will be available by the second quarter. This, thus, supports Valuewalk's earlier claim.
In a separate Forbes report, contributor Gordon Kelly said that a "radical change" is being eyed in the new Samsung flagship device. Kelly said that while details about the new device are not yet clear, it is possible that Samsung won't push for a larger display but there is still a possibility that it would shift to a 5.5-inches phone.
He is also expecting that not much will be changed and it will get the features also found in its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S5. "Elsewhere the S5's strengths will no doubt remain like waterproofing, expandable storage, fingerprint and heart rate sensors and the newly launched Android 5.0 Lollipop will undoubtedly make the cut," he said.
Here are some of the details about the new device, according to reports:
Camera
Valuewalk said that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will probably get a 20-megapixel camera. But an exclusive report from Sam Mobile revealed that there is still no confirmation if this is true. It then predicts that the Samsung Galaxy S6 might get a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. However, it will likely get the IMX240 camera sensor which can also be found in the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
The front camera will be upgraded to a 5-megapixel camera.
Screen and display
As for the screen and display, Sam Mobile predicts that the new flagship device will get a Quad HD (2560×1440) display while Techradar sees the display to be larger at 5.2 inches or 5.3 inches.
Processor
The Samsung Galaxy S6 would probably get either a Snapdragon 808 or a Snapdragon 810 as processor. But Valuewalk and Sam Mobile is both firm in saying that the device would get the octa-core 64-bit chip.
Storage
Future Samsung Galaxy S6 buyers have to choose between 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants. A possibility that a 16 GB Samsung Galaxy S6 might be crossed off the list is also being eyed.
3GB or 4GB RAM?
It is still unclear if the new flagship device will have a 3GB or 4GB RAM. Techradar claims that that the new device will have a 4GB RAM but Sam Mobile guesses that it will retain its 3 GB RAM which the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has.
OS
Samsung Galaxy S6 will probably get the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Google senior vice president Sundar Pichai earlier confirmed that the new device will run Android. Pichai said that the Samsung and Google are in good terms and that both are "always collaborating on projects," BGR.com reported. Samsung has not yet issued a statement about these rumors.
