The star of Wednesday's Apple press conference was the iPhone 5, but the new flagship smartphone is only part of a suite of products that the Cuptertino-based company touted at the event.

New iPod Touch

Apple gave some love to the new iPod touch, which is notably integrating Siri and updating the device with an A5 chip. This new chip is seven times faster than the last iPod touch with graphical fidelity. Owners will be able to appreciate these performance enhancements with a new 4-inch screen.

The new iPod's battery is now capable of lasting for eight hours of continuous video playback, or 40 hours of music. The Touch will weigh 88 grams and be 6.1 mm.

The device will feature a rear 5-megapixel camera with backside illumination, a five-element lens, a 2.4 aperture, flash, a microphone, and autofocus. Also included is the freshly announced Panorama mode, which allows users to capture a string of pictures to create a full 360-degree photograph. The front camera allows for Facetime HD at 720p, and the Touch's video recorder is 1080p capable.

Connectivity options include compatibility with the new 8-pin Lightening dock connector, and Bluetooth 4.0 with LE and 802.11 a/b/g/.

Apple also announced the "iPod Touch loop" accessory, which allows users to securely attach a wrist strap to the iPod.

Consumers will be offered silver, black, red, yellow, and blue versions of the device.

The 32GB version of the new iPod touch will sell for $299, and the 64GB for $399.  For those who are interested in the iPod's previous iteration, the 16GB can be bought for $199, and the 32GB for $249.

Pre-orders begin September 14, with the launch falling in October. 

iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 will feature an A6 chip, sharper touch sensors, an 8-pin Lightening connector, weights 112 grams, and sports a 4-inch screen that displays at 1136 x 640 pixels with a 16 x 9 aspect ratio.

Apple's flagship will 8 hours of life of 3G talk time, 8 hours 3G browsing, 8 hours LTE browsing, 10 hours Wifi Browsing, 10 hours video, 40 hours music, and 225 hours on standby.

The iPhone 5's new camera contains an 8 megapixel sensor, displays at 3264 x 2448, and has backside illumination, a hybrid IR filter, and a f/2.4 aperture. Video capture will display at 1080p, while the cameras displays at 720p.

The iPhone 5 will launch next Friday on September 21, preceded by the release of iOS 6 on September 19.
