Microsoft took a swipe at Apple, releasing a video comparing the MacBook Air to the new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro convertible. Which device do you think brought home the bacon?
"It's an epic dance-off between the new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and the MacBook Air," the video entitled "Yoga 3 Pro - Let's Dance" said. The video was uploaded by Windows on YouTube on November 2. It has over 300,000 views as of press time.
The question the video was really trying to pose was "Does the MacBook Air stand a chance against the sleekness and multi-mode flexibility of the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro?" To which it fearlessly answered, "Nope."
Thinner and lighter?
In the video, the two were first compared in terms of their thickness. It claimed that the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is definitely thinner since it only measures 13 millimeters against the MacBook Air's 17 millimeters. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro which weighs 2.70 pounds is lighter than the MacBook Air 13-inch which weighs 2.96 pounds. But the MacBook Air 11-inch is much more lighter than the two as it only weighs 2.38 pounds.
Notebook and tablet in one
Microsoft also boasted of the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro's ability to be converted into a tablet. MacBook Air obviously lacks this feature. Also, Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro has the "tent" feature to enable users to watch through the screen just by folding it, another feature that the Macbook Air is lacking.
MacBook Air with touchscreen?
The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is also a touchscreen device. Apple on the other hand, cnet.com reported, does not have any plans of making their MacBooks touchscreens. It quoted Apple senior vice president Craig Federighi as saying, "We don't think it's the right interface, honestly...Mac is sort of a sit-down experience."
CNET also said that Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier revealed he is personally against convertibles as most devices that turn out to be a notebook and a tablet at the same time have some compromises.
Screen Resolution
The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro also appears to have a higher screen resolution with 3200x1800 QHD+ screen resolution versus MacBook Air's 1440x900 screen resolution, Microsoft said.
Camera
Both have the same 720P HD front-facing camera.
Processor
The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro uses an Intel Core M-70 processor while the MacBook Air has a dual core Intel Core i5 or i7 processor.
Operating System
MacBook Air uses an OS X Yosemite while the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro can use up to Windows 8.1 Pro.
Battery Life
The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro can last up to 7.2 hours while the MacBook Air can be used for wireless web for up to 9 hours.
Price
The video concluded that the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is better than the MacBook Air but the decision really lies on the buyers' hands.
The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro can be bought for $1,299.99 while the price of the MacBook Air starts at $899 for the 11-inch and at $999 for the 13-inch.
