Google has just completed a sweet update to the Android. Apparently, the new version of the mobile operating system will be called "Lollipop."

Its official complete name is Android 5.0 Lollipop. Google has likewise announced that the first two mobile devices to run the new operating system are the HTC Nexus 9 tablet and the Motorola Nexus 6, reported The Sydney Morning Herald.

Google also declared that the Nexus Player of Asus is to be the first device to run Android TV. Nexus Player is considered by the company as a "first-of-its-kind Android gaming device," The Sydney Morning Herald added.

As to when Android Lollipop will hit the market, Google has not made any official confirmation just yet.

But Techradar already hinted of a November 1 release date based on initial speculations. The site played it safe by setting a late October 2014 or early November 2014 range of possible release dates for the Lollipop.

Key Features of Android Lollipop

So how does Andoroid Lollipop differ from the early versions of the Android OS?

Techradar quoted Sundar Pichai, Google's senior vice president for Android and Chrome, proclaiming the Lollipop as "one of the biggest upgrades to Android yet."

Apart from a "Material Design," the Lollipop completely changes the interface with more fluid animations and a cleaner aesthetic appearance. "It shall make every animation, every ripple, and every shadow look real," the report described.

The new mobile operating system has been developed to make the Android experience seamless across devices including smartphones, tablets and TVs.

"Making Android 5.0 Lollipop devices communicate properly is at the top of its features list," noted Techradar.

Know Your Mobile listed the other features of the new Android OS including:

1.    New battery saver mode

This unique feature saves more than 90 minutes of battery life of all devices running on Lollipop.

2.    Brand new multitasking menu and even more ways to use one's voice

A big improvement compared to the last Android upgrade as voice is going to be a major input source for the new operating system.

3.    Multiple user accounts and a guest user mode

Makes it more like Microsoft Windows already.

4.    Notifications will get an overhaul

It is possible to adjust the OS so that only the notifications from the most important people and apps will be displayed on screen.

5.    More ways to secure the device

The lockscreen of the Lollipop will be smarter as well. "If a user has a specific location set up, or is wearing a Bluetooth device, the phone will recognize him and shall unlock even without a PIN," Techradar explains.

"Once the user moves or takes his watch off, he needs to tap or swipe and key in a code to unlock it. He also has the option to use his voice in unlocking the device," added the report.

6.    Download is free

Typical with Google, the Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system is downloadable for free. It's just that some devices will have it available earlier than others.
