The iPhone 6 has finally been unveiled. Apple CEO Tim Cook led the keynote presentation, with a smashing U2 performance to cap the event.
We listed the top five things you need to know about the brand new iPhone 6.
Apple iPhone 6 is a phablet
As most tech pundits have speculated, the new iPhone 6 is larger than expected compared to its predecessors. The Wall Street Journal said that the company appeared to be following the route of its biggest competitor, Samsung. It reportedly provided the best of both worlds for gadget users who do not wish to carry a smartphone and a tablet. It comes in two versions in terms of display size, one at 4.7 inches diagonally and 5.5 inches for its big brother, the iPhone 6 Plus. The screen is also brighter and in high-resolution compared to its older models, which was a delight for fans. However, this means that like a phablet, the iPhone 6 models would be harder to thumb-navigate, given its larger screens.
iPhone 6 has an improved camera function
Techradar said that during the event, Apple did not mention about the changes it might have done in the structure of its camera lens. As such, it could be safe to assume that the new iPhone 6 models still have the same 1.5 microns pixel size found in iPhone 5S, with an aperture opening of a fixed f/2.2. True Tone Flash is also evident in the new phone, which means that the colors and skin tone in photos remain, well true, and is not available in any other smartphone. Moreover, image quality of photos taken using the new iPhone 6 models are said to be improved, thanks to its new iSight camera that has been likened to an SLR camera, the site also revealed.
Apple iPhone as a virtual wallet
Buzzfeed said that Apple has a new credit card-like touch system in place that the company is banking on to make a huge killing. WSJ said that this was among the couple of things (aside from the Apple Watch) the company has decided to give more focus on, especially in the advent of mobile payment technology. This payment system is possible with a credit card sensor using NFC (near filed communication) technology.
Apple iPhone 6 phone shortcuts
WSJ said that given the fact that iPhone 6 models have large screens, the company decided to make a few significant tweaks in order to make the phone easier to use. "Press lightly twice on the iPhone 6's Touch ID button, and whatever app you're using instantly becomes half-screen sized, so you can reach stuff at the top of the screen, like the icon to start a new email," WSJ noted.
Apple iPhone 6 has no improved battery performance
WSJ said that the batteries of the new iPhone 6 models only get to last for 10 hours, just like the iPhone 5S. This was an obvious disappointment to fans who wish that Cook and the folks at Apple would have improved the battery to make it more superior than other phablet models.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be on sale on September 19, and pre-orders will be accepted beginning September 12. The iPhone 6 will retail at $199 up and comes in silver gold and black, while iPhone 6 Plus retails at $299 up, depending on storage options.
