Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors started floating a year ago, with KpopStarz reporting that a concept for the upcoming smartphone involves "a beautiful GravityUX that runs on Android 6.0 with an 18 MP camera and 4K high frame rate video recording," plus battery life that will only require once-a-week charging.

With that kind of battery, the device must be quite heavy. Or perhaps they have hatched the technology that allows such an enviable feature?

Last year's prediction also included "a new protective coating called hyperskin."

Let's compare these to recent speculations and leaks about Samsung's upcoming flagship product release.

Aside from reportedly having features that will have it "compete neck to neck with Apple's iPhone 6," Galaxy S6 will allegedly be the first from the South Korean's line of smartphones that won't have the usual plastic casing, according to BreatheCast. So that's one deviation from last year's speculation.

"According to expert reviews, the goal is to produce a premium and metal design that would complement a myriad of high-end specifications for the product," the site added.

Aside from that, the S6 is anticipated to have "a powerful 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 or 801 chipset that is going to be the first of its kind amongst all other Android phones," Breathecast continued, and it will also run on Android 6.0, which is right on the money with last year's forecast.

The site also puts Galaxy S6's camera capacity at either 16 or 20 megapixels. TechRadar said that Samsung is aiming to release "smartphones with 4K 3840 x 2160 displays on the market" by next year. This could mean that the S6 may very well go from 2K to 4K when it eventually comes out.

Samsung needs to do things right in a big way with the S6, to make up for the disappointment that the S5 generated amongst some consumers.

"Galaxy S5 did not make a huge impact as compared to the early models of high-end Galaxy units," BreatheCast noted.

Counterpoint analyst, Tom Kang, also said so: "They made one mistake, one product that didn't hold up to expectations and they are paying the price. They will have to move forward and leave behind what has failed and focus on the next product."

This makes the S6 a smartphone to watch, as it may be that Samsung's putting all it's got into this product - which means it may very well give Apple a run for its money.

Although the rumor mill said that the Galaxy S6 may be rolling out March 2015, Samsung has not confirmed its release date yet. This is not surprising, considering that we're still about 6 months away from that, if the rumors are right, that is.
