On the heels of Apple's unveiling of the new MacBook Pro, last Tuesday speculations have already begun regarding new models of the Mac Mini and iMac.
iol Sci Tech reports that the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro will feature the latest Haswell processor from Intel to boost battery life, memory, and performance. This will also be the case with the 15-inch MacBook Pro -- all with Retina Displays to boast.
Also of note, the 13-inch MacBook Pro will have a standard of 8 Gb of RAM rather than 4 Gb, while 16 Gb of RAM will be standard for the 15-inch.
Regarding pricing, Apple is planning to stay with the status quo. This means that the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, a 2.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.1 GHz, 8 GB memory, 128 GB flash storage, and Intel Iris graphics will cost $1299. Meanwhile, the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro graphics is priced at $1999.
For its flagship 15-inch model with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speed up to 3.7 GHz, 16 Gb memory, 512 Gb flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics, Apple has reduced its pricing. That model will now be available for $2499.
While the news regarding the MacBook Pro has been encouraging, speculation has also been rampant that Apple will update its Mac Mini and flagship 27-inch iMac consumer desktop PC in the weeks to come.
Apple has been steadily updating and improving some of its devices ranging from its MacBook Air notebooks to the aforementioned 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros. In fact, Apples has already launched new models of its cheaper, entry-level iPods and iMacs.
According to Yahoo, the question that has been on several minds, though, is if Apple will have new things in store for two overlooked devices, namely the Mac Mini and the 27-inch iMac all-in-one desktop. The Mac Mini is famous as the little desktop box computer connected to a keyboard and monitor and hasn't received any refresh since 2012. For its part, 2013 was the last time the 27-inch iMac had a substantial makeover.
The reason behind the excitement regarding these two particular models revolves around a document that was accidentally published on the support section of Apple's website that listed new 2014 Mac Mini and iMac models. Though the document has since been pulled, several tech sites were already able to screen grab it while proceeding to fuel the rumor mill.
Expected changes for the flagship 27-inch iMac are that it will be offered with Retina Display or even 4k resolution. With the launch of the new MacBook Pros, Apple can easily amp up the performance and specs of the 27-inch iMac without fear of damaging sales on either of these devices.
