Back in April, PC Mag's Sascha Segan was able to try on Samsung's newest offering, the 'Level' headphones, right at the tech giant's Suwon headquarters in South Korea. "I found them very comfortable," Egan wrote. "Are these nice headphones? You bet. Price will be very relevant."
"The 'Level' headphones currently have no plans for a U.S. release, which is strange, but Samsung says they'll come to the U.S. Eventually," the reviewer added.
And indeed it has.
On Wednesday, Samsung announced that it will be making the new "Level" headphones available in the United States, Mashable reported.
"Featuring a bulky-retro, over-the-ear design, Level - which includes a Bluetooth speaker box and a set of earphones - will likely draw comparisons to Apple's Beats headphones," the site added. "And with its product offerings, design, pricing, and demographically specific promotional video (see below), it appears that would-be Beats consumers are exactly who Samsung is targeting with its Level line."
The tech news source also noted that the Korean company appears to be "offering direct alternatives to nearly all of Beats' primary SKUs." Audacious move, don't you think?
The "Level" line actually comes in three models, as stated also by The Verge. The lineup is led by Level Over, described as "a $349.99 pair of over-ear Bluetooth headphones with active noise cancellation, NFC pairing, and what Samsung claims is 'powerful, clear, sharp sound.'"
"They can also be plugged in thanks to a detachable audio cable (with microphone and remote controls for your smartphone). And if you don't like the way Level Over headphones sound out of the box, Samsung also offers an Android app that allows for EQ customization, or what the company refers to as 'SoundAlive,'" the tech news source added.
Next to that is Level On, which retails at $179.99. These are foldable, wired, on-ear devices that looks like the Level Over but "without the fancy touch controls and Bluetooth functionality."
The third model is Level In, which are $149.99 earbuds that some may find too pricey for such types of audio products.
"Rounding out Samsung's new mobile audio offerings is the $170 Level Box, a Bluetooth speaker with two 56mm drivers with passive radiator, NFC, pairing, on-board controls, built-in microphone for speakerphone duties and a battery capable of a claimed 15 hours of playback," Apple Insider noted.
Samsung's new line of headphones are said to be sold exclusively at Gilt starting Thursday this week. Amazon and Best Buy will follow suit by making the Level headphones available on July 20 and 27, respectively.
