Eagle-eyed Apple sleuths have discovered a clue that led them to believe the iPhone maker will be adapting the Retina display to the iMac, and not just the MacBook Pro, Pop Herald said.

"A newly discovered code hidden inside the Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10 update is suggesting that Apple is expanding the Retina display from MacBook Pro - to the desktop-friendly Apple iMac," the news site shared. "We need more information from the the 'supply chain' to confirm if the product is already in production, or Apple is still not ready to release it and the sole purpose of the codes are for preparation only."

According to Apple Insider, a "file covering display device scaling settings shows a number of high-resolution options for an unknown computer that go far beyond Apple's current offerings." The highest resolution is 6,400-by-3,600 pixels, which may be shrunk to 3,200-by-1,800 pixels when converted to Retina.

The Retina display is a coveted feature due to the fact that it doesn't show "pixels" and thus offers crisper, clearer, and more vivid images.

However, Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI securities analyst known for his "accurate predictions," did not mention expecting a Retina iMac, although he said he's anticipating a less costly version of the Apple desktop, as well as a Retina MacBook Air.

Although the iMac line is not as popular as the other Apple products, it remains an important offering of the company, as designers, business groups, and photography professionals and hobbyists find the desktop version a fitting tool. Should there be a new iMac or MacBook Pro, these could be released in the fall.

It has been speculated that Apple PCs with Retina displays could "give Apple the boost in sales, not only in the computing category, but also on mobile."

"For starters, Yosemite 10.10 and iOS 8 have many features in common with enhancements mainly targeting better syncing," Pop Herald noted. "Plus, Apple is also introducing the Handoff feature, the better syncing feature for the iPad, iPhone and Mac. This feature will allow owners of Apple products to start a project from one device or continue and finish it on another device, whether it's an iOS or an OS X device."

The new and improved syncing features may create a "halo effect," which not only streamlines tasks, but also helps Apple make it easier to sell more than just one device. This would lead to increased revenues for the Cupertino-based tech company.
