Samsung showed the world on August 29 what exactly the Galaxy Note 2 is all about from a Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin but still kept a few important bits of information to themselves. While we know the exact specs of the Galaxy Note 2, Samsung refused to reveal pricing, an exact U.S. release date, and which carriers would be offering the phablet. In the wake of much speculation of who would be carrying the device, website TmoNews says that T-Mobile could be offering the Galaxy Note 2 soon.
The website posted a picture from the "about device" build screen that shows the device being build number "T889." TmoNews says the build number for the original Galaxy Note was "T879," and says "the model number jump to T889 makes some sense as a Galaxy Note successor."
The only other information TmoNews says can be gleaned from the images is the fact that the resolution is 1280X720 - the same resolution as the specs listed on Samsung's official Galaxy Note 2 website.
I had written earlier that I believed AT&T would be the only carrier to offer the Galaxy Note 2 at launch. Verizon and Sprint have shown no interest in the Galaxy Note series, and T-Mobile just released the original Galaxy Note. I believed this indicated that they would hold off on the Galaxy Note 2 until 2013, as to not upset customers who recently purchased the original at full price.
If TmoNews is correct, then the Galaxy Note 2 could indeed be sold through T-Mobile by the end of 2012. This is good news for T-Mobile customers, who will find themselves the only ones out the of three major national U.S. carriers without an iPhone 5 to buy this holiday season.
The Galaxy Note 2 will be sold with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean preinstalled, and come with the S Pen stylus.
