The upcoming title has reportedly used Crytek 3 engine but not just the standard version, says the Official Nintendo Magazine.

According to the outlet, the upcoming Wii U title used an especially team-enhanced system of CryEngine 3. The Nintendo mag reports that "Sonic Boom" will feature a twin split-screen display, one on the TV screen and the other on the GamePad, which is not supported by the standard version of the game tool.

"We worked in close contact with [CryEngine creator] Crytek in Germany and the team there is pretty excited about that as well. In the end, it was simply the right choice for the project," Big Red Button CEO and visual director, Bob Rafai told the Official Nintendo Magazine.

It seems that the shift also felt right for Sega US producer Stephen Frost who explained why the team was ditching "Sonic: Lost World" tool Hedgehog Engine.

"You associate CryEngine with lush, tropical, beachy things. These are also things with which Sonic is associated, so they work together," Frost told the Official Nintendo Magazine.

True enough, a short clip used by Crytek in their CryEngine 3 demo video montage back in March 2013 during the Game Developers Conference shows "lush, tropical, beachy things" as mentioned by Frost.

Judging from the comments section of the clip which was uploaded on YouTube, gamers are generally impressed by the Nintendo console.

"And people say the Wii U is weaker than the PS3/Xbox360. These details seems is impossible for PS3/Xbox360 if I'm not mistaken," commented one YouTube user.

Another comment reads, "A s a PS4 user, i'm pretty much amazed at how this game looks on the Wii U. Gorgeous looking game and it's in 1080p on a console with a significantly less powerful than it's competitors! It kinda surprised me because at first glance i'd thought a sonic game this level of detail would run on Xbox One and PS4. Anyway, enjoy the game when it comes out Wii U users."

Big Red Button and Sega have not yet announced a release date for "Sonic Boom" but Cinema Blend notes that the title is coming to Wii U sometime this year.
