'Halo' Music Composer Martin O'Donnell Fired 'Without Cause'

The famed video game music composer is claiming that Bungie has fired him for no reason at all.

Donnell took to Twitter and announced to his twenty-two thousand-strong followers, "I'm saddened to say that Bungie's board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014."

Most of the American composer's followers reacted through tweets expressing shock and utter disbelief. "@MartyTheElder The hell?! Why? What?! Lost for words right now D:" tweets @John Joseco. MYTHoLogic ‏says, "@MartyTheElder jeez man. i feel so sorry for you, your music is one of the reasons why halo is amazing."

Twitter user Martin McHendry pointed out, "@MartyTheElder that's disgusting. They give this impression of a close-knit group, and do this?! Outrageous." On the other side of the fence, Bungie has made the announcement on a different tone.

In a news update entitled "There are those who said this day would never come," the Washington-based company said:

"For more than a decade, Marty O'Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future,"

The post adds, "We wish him luck in all his future endeavors."

It isn't clear why Martin O'Donnell was booted out of the game developing company but what's clear are the "unforgettable sounds and soundtracks" of the games he has made music for, as noted by Bungie.

O'Donnell, often called Marty, has composed music for several of Bungie's titles including the third person action video game "Oni" and the real-time tactics video game "Myth" before that.

Most notably, Marty is the man behind the award-winning score of the "Halo" series which bagged recognition from award-giving bodies Game Developers Conference and the Rolling Stone.

Engadget notes that should the ex-Bungie employee still be interested in working on "Halo," he might just be getting a call from 343 Industries pretty soon.
