Willard "Mitt" Romney formally accepted his nomination for the Grand Ol' Party (GOP) during the final night of the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Thursday.
The one-term Massachusetts governor was introduced by Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a man who was heavily rumored to be Romney's vice presidential running mate. The pick was ultimately given to Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan.
Romney entered the convention hall in a similar way to how presidents enter for the State of the Union speeches, walking down an isle while shaking hands and greeting delegates as he approaches the podium.
"Mister Chairman and delegates, I accept your nomination for President of the United States," were the first words uttered by Romney, adding he does so "with humility."
Romney wasted no time in promoting his running mate Ryan as a "strong and caring leader," and a man "who loves his mom."
Focus shifted to Democratic challenger, President Barack Obama.
"Four years ago, I know that many Americans felt a fresh excitement about the possibilities of a new president...When that hard fought election was over, when the yard signs came down and the television commercials finally came off the air, Americans were eager to go back to work, to live our lives the way Americans always have - optimistic and positive and confident in the future," said Romney, who then added that it's that kind of optimism that makes America unique.
He added, "I wish President Obama had succeeded because I want America to succeed. But his promises gave way to disappointment and division. This isn't something we have to accept."
Romney stated that the moment has arrived when people should stand up and say, "I'm an American. I make my destiny. And we deserve better. My children deserve better. My family deserves better. My country deserves better."
He said Americans have a choice and a decision to make that choice.
As expected, his business background was highlighted. He noted he helped start a small company at the age of 37 helping other business.
Romney said, "That business we started with 10 people has now grown into a great American success story. Some of the companies we helped start are names you know. An office supply company called Staples - where I'm pleased to see the Obama campaign has been shopping; The Sports Authority, which became a favorite of my sons. We started an early childhood learning center called Bright Horizons that First Lady Michelle Obama rightly praised."
Romney believes the American economy will improve and lead the world with innovation and productivity. He has a five step plan that will gain 12 million jobs that includes job training, alternative energy, forging trade agreements, ensure job creators that "their investments will not vansish" with a balanced budget, and "champion small businesses" by repealing Obamacare and cutting taxes.
"My promise is to help you and your family."
He also said his vision includes a military that is strong that "no nation would ever dare to test it."
"If I am elected President of these United States, I will work with all my energy and soul to restore that America, to lift our eyes to a better future. That future is our destiny. That future is out there. It is waiting for us. Our children deserve it, our nation depends upon it, the peace and freedom of the world require it. And with your help we will deliver it. Let us begin that future together tonight."
Romney's speech ended at 11:13 p.m. EDT.
