So it's finally here. After much speculation and rumor-mongering, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has officially been revealed. Samsung revealed the Galaxy Note 2 at a Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin just before the IFA started. After initial impressions, one thing is certain, the Galaxy Note 2 is an impressive device that should please returning Galaxy Note users as well as offer a compelling argument to consumers on the fence.
The Galaxy Note 2 is an interesting and unique electronics device. With a 5.55-inch screen, it is a little too big to be considered normal smartphone size, and a little too small to be considered a tablet. It sits in the middle, in its own 'phablet' category, and opts to please a consumer looking for the best of both worlds.
"Before we launched the Galaxy note in Berlin last year, there were smart phones and tablets, but nothing in between," explained Jean-Daniel Ayme, VP of European Telecommunication Operations. "We're taking it one step further with the Galaxy Note 2. It's the most powerful smartphone in the marketplace."
And the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is one impressively spec'd device.
Its 5.55-inch screen will deliver run at a 1280X720 resolution that will also allow for 16:9 viewing. It will also feature a powerful 1.6GHz quad-core processor and will, surprisingly, come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android available on only a few handsets worldwide, pre-installed.
While the camera won't be the eye-popping 12-13 megapixels the rumor mill had predicted, the rear-facing camera will still be a respectable 8 megapixels with 1080p video capabilities, and the front-facing camera will take 1.9 megapixel pictures or 720p HD video. The Galaxy Note 2 will also come in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models.
The biggest draw of the device, however, will be the S pen stylus. This electronic pen now has more functionality and integration, meaning that you can literally just take the pen out and begin writing, with little to no hassle. The Galaxy Note 2 becomes a digital notepad, and add its incredible multi-tasking abilities, and you have a very handy notebook/digital work and creative space.
Samsung chose not to reveal pricing or carrier information today. However, it is safe to say that the Galaxy Note 2 will be available for purchase in October, and that carrier AT&T will definitely be selling the handset.
Will you be purchasing a Galaxy Note 2? Or do other phones such as the iPhone 5 have you more excited?
