Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date, Features & Price: Top 5 Specs of Samsung's Best Smartphone Yet

Observers suspected the 2014 Mobile World Congress is going to be an event that could eclipse CES in significance. Day 1 at MWC somehow appeared to prove this prediction true. No, it's not because Mark Zuckerberg made an appearance -- it's mostly because Samsung finally unveiled its latest mobile product, the one that has been the subject of innumerable tech rumors over the past months.

"The Galaxy S5, dubbed the 'superphone' has handpicked features from its competitors and put them all into a single handset," Daily Mail reported. "Samsung claims it crams in a professional camera and a powerful fitness tracker while being water and dust proof - and comes with fingerprint sensor technology, just like arch rival the iPhone 5S."

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S5 may just be the smartphone that could seriously give Apple's iPhone a run for their money. That being said, here are the top 5 specs of this newest release from the South Korean company:

• Camera

  "The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S5 is probably one of the most improved elements of the handset, and that's not because it's leapt forward to a 16MP sensor," Tech Radar noted. The autofocus is "super fast" and the device also has real time HDR.

• Fitness Technology

  S Health 3.0 on the S5 is much better than the one in the S4. The latest model has a heart rate sensor and can track your calories.

• Power Saving

  "It's most extreme mode will actually shut down LTE, cut you off from the vast majority of your apps, and turn the screen grey scale, apparently allowing it to last for days without a charge," CNN observed.

• Weatherproofing

  While this feature was not tested by reviewers, Samsung claimed the S5 is waterproof and dustproof "to a depth of 1m for 30 minutes."

• Display

  The Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch display, .1 greater than the S4's 5-inch screen, and has "the same 1080p resolution" as last year's model. It's also brighter and has a special technology that "also improves performance in direct sunlight," CNN said.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be released in April this year.
