Google finally announced that it will release the Google Play edition of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and good news for techies, it is actually already available for U.S. buyers. Unfortunately, there is no word on its release on the global market yet, but it is priced at $649 in the U.S., according to Engadget.com.
The Xperia Z Ultra is a phone-tablet hybrid with sleek lines and sharp edges that has become the current Sony signature design. According to The Verge, at only 6.5 mm, it is thinner than the iPhone 5S. It is heavier, though, at 212 grams, compared to the iPhone's 112.
According to the Sony Website, the Xperia Z Ultra is equipped with a 6.44-inch LCD display, with high definition resolution (1080p) and a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, which happens to be the fastest chip in the mobile world from maker Qualcomm. With its 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, it is one gadget that will surely make an impression.
Other features of the Z Ultra include an 8-megapixel fast-capture camera with Exmor RS and 16x Digital zoom with audio focus. The heavy-duty battery can last up to 16 hours of talk time, 820 hours of standby time, 110 hours of music listening time, and 7 hours of video playback time.
Xperia Z Ultra operates on Android 4.4 KitKat software, with a GSM radio that is capable of grabbing 4G LTE signals. It is also unlocked, so U.S. users can use it with AT&T or T-Mobile SIM without worrying about signal coverage. Also, it can be used in several overseas regions.
The icing on the cake, according to CNet review, is the water-resistance of the phone-tablet.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is now available directly from the Google Play Store for the retail price of $649, and is available in three colors: black, white, and purple.
