Microsoft's Windows Phone has defeated Apple's iOS in the Italian smartphone operating system market share, based on new data.
According to Kantar Worldpanel, Windows Phone beat iOS by 6 percentage points during the three months ending in October 2013.

The win for Windows Phone improved the Microsoft smartphone operating system's rank from third place during the same three-month period last year. Windows Phone finished the three months ending in October this year with 16.1 percent of the market share, which is an increase of 4.4 percent from the 11.7 percent it accounted for last year.
Apple's smartphone operating system encountered the steepest market share percentage loss in Italy with 8.4 percentage points. iOS previously placed second with 18.5 percent of the market share last year but concluded the three months ending in October 2013 with 10.1 percent.
Google Android maintained first place with an easily comfortable margin. Android saw an increase of its market share by double digits, or 11.5 percent. With the percentage increase, Android finished the three months ending in October this year with 68.8 percent, which is up from 57.3 percent last year.
BlackBerry's market share percentage fell by 2.6 percentage points. BlackBerry held fourth place with 1.4 percent, down from the 4 percent during the three months ending in October last year.
