Microsoft's Windows Phone platform increased its market share presence in Australia, according to new data of smartphone operating system statistics.
The Microsoft mobile platform saw an increase of 3.3 percentage points in Australia based on Kantar Worldpanel's latest smartphone operating system market share data.

The increase for Windows Phone was the largest increase for a smartphone operating system during the three months ending in October 2013. In comparison to the three months ending in October last year, Windows Phone accounted for 4 percent of the market share. For the same period in 2013, Windows Phone garnered 7.3 percent of the total smartphone operating system market share.
Although Windows Phone encountered the highest increase in the smartphone operating system market share, it was no match to compete against Google Android and Apple's iOS.
Android maintained first place despite having the most percentage loss in Kantar's latest data. The Google mobile operating system lost 5.5 percent of the market share in comparison to the 60.4 percent it received in 2012. For the three months ending in October 2013, Android represented 54.9 percent of the smartphone operating system market share.
Despite the drop with Android, it was easily ahead of iOS. The Apple smartphone operating system saw its market share increase by 2.2 percentage points. iOS, however, garnered 35 percent of the smartphone platform market share after October.
BlackBerry held onto fourth place while it finally saw an increase of 0.8 percent. BlackBerry previously represented 0.8 percent of the smartphone operating system market share by October 2012, but finished the same three-month period this year with 1.6 percent.
