Following a website crash due to consumers' overwhelming response to Motorola's Cyber Monday Moto X deal, the company rescheduled their Cyber Monday Sale for December 4 and 9.
According to CNet.com, the handset company planned to put on sale a limited offer of the new Moto X smartphone at a $150 discount, off-contract. The said model is at the top of the company's line of smartphones, distinguished by its online tool allowing for a customizable appearance. The overwhelming response of customers rendered Motorola's customization site unusable, causing the said site crash.
The lack of sufficiently extensive pre-sale testing is the source of the failure, as the company failed to address the weakness of a large number of individuals placing orders at the same time.
Motorola, however, has addressed the said issue and announced that the Cyber Monday sale will be rescheduled on Wednesday, December 4, and Monday, December 9, at 12 p.m. EST. Design n' Trend said that during these dates, users will be able to purchase the 16GB Moto X for $349 and the 32GB Moto X for $399.
The new schedule of the sale was announced by Motorola Chief Executive, Dennis Woodside, on the company's official blog. Woodside explained:
"Here is what we are going to do: Starting at 12 pm EST/9 am PST this Wednesday, we will relaunch the $349 promotion. To help make up for this major inconvenience to shoppers, we will also add an additional promotional day on Monday, December 9. We will double the quantity of phones available, while supplies last, to allow as many people as possible to take advantage of the promotion. We're also extending the 30-percent-off offer on accessories to these two days....
On behalf of all Motorolans, I apologize for what occurred today. I appreciate your understanding as we get this fixed in time for Wednesday and Monday."
The complete apology statement is posted on Motorola's Official Blog.
