Microsoft's Windows Phone has made history. The mobile operating system cracked into double-digit territory in the smartphone platforms market share in the United Kingdom.
According to Kantar Worldpanel, Windows Phone saw an increase of 7.9 percentage points from the 4.6 percent it accounted for during the three months ending in October 2012.

With the 7.9 percent increase, Windows Phone finished the latest three months ending in October 2013 with 11.9 percent of the smartphone operating system market share. Windows Phone saw the highest percentage increase among all mobile operating systems based on Kantar Worldpanel's data.
Despite the percentage increase for Windows Phone, it was no match for Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms.
Android finished in first place once again in the U.K. The Google mobile platform garnered a 1.6 percentage point increase from last year. Android finished the latest three months ending in October this year with 55.6 percent of the market share, which is up from the 54 percent last year.
iOS placed second despite a slip in the market share. The Apple mobile operating system fell by 4 percentage points between the three months ending in October last year and the same period this year. iOS accounted for 28.7 percent of the smartphone operating system market share, down from the 32.7 percent in 2012.
While Windows Phone upgraded to third place, BlackBerry fell to fourth. BlackBerry encountered the largest percentage loss, dipping 4.8 percentage points. With the loss, BlackBerry finished the three months ending in October this year with 3.3 percent of the smartphone operating system market share, which is down from the 8.1 percent in 2012.
