It's taken half a month, but Google has finally released Android 4.4 KitKat factory images for the popular Nexus 4 smartphone.
Wi-Fi models of the Nexus 7 (both 2012 and 2013 models) and the Nexus 10 began receiving Android 4.4 KitKat Wednesday, and it looks like Google has finally released the files for the rest of its lineup, including the Nexus 4.
Interested Nexus 4 owners can head over here to download the factory images straight from Google. Manual installation will be required.
Factory images are basically the stock operating system files and can be useful for modders who need to have the files on hand in case something goes wrong with flashing. It can also be used by those who don't want to wait for the over-the-air rollout to commence. As always, be sure to back up your device before making any operating system changes.
Android 4.4 KitKat factory images for the rest of the Nexus lineup were also released. Owners of the LTE-capable Nexus 7 (both 2012 and 2013 models) can also grab Android 4.4 KitKat files.
There's no word on when Google will start pushing out Android 4.4 KitKat over the air to cellular devices such as the Nexus 4, but it can't be long now that the files are out and about. Expect Google to attempt to have its entire Nexus lineup updated via an over-the-air rollout in time for the busy holiday shopping season that really kicks off at the end of November.
