With the PlayStation 4 arriving on Nov. 15 and the Xbox One following soon after on Nov. 22, potential buyers are wondering just what exactly they'll get in return for their hundreds of dollars. For those curious about what sort of pack-in features the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will have, here's a guide to all the goodies that will be included with the day-one versions of the consoles.
Each Xbox One and PlayStation 4 comes with 500GB of internal memory. The PlayStation 4 comes with one Dualshock 4 controller, so anyone planning on playing local multiplayer on day one will need to buy an extra controller. Similarly, the Xbox One comes with just one Xbox One controller, but also comes with the Xbox One Kinect. This camera can be used for voice commands for a wide variety of user apps as well as some voice commands for gaming. The PlayStation 4 has a similar device called the PlayStation Eye, but it only comes with special SKUs of the device and is not a mandatory pack-in item on the PlayStation 4.
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both offer special trials of their premium online services. Xbox One members will get 14 days of Xbox Live Gold, while Sony will give players 14 days of PlayStation Plus to try out, in addition to the 30-day trial that day one users will receive if they pre-ordered the system. In addition, PlayStation 4 owners will get a $10 gift card to the PlayStation Store when they purchase a PlayStation 4.
Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will come with wired speaking devices for helping users communicate. The Xbox One has a wired headset, while the PlayStation has a wired earbud for use in online multiplayer. However, the Xbox One can also use the Kinect for chatting with fellow gamers, along with using the camera for video chats via Skype.
The rest of the pack-in bonuses are pretty standard. Sony has included the game Playroom, which requires the PlayStation Eye. The Xbox One does not have a pack-in game. Each system comes with a HDMI cable, and the PlayStation 4 comes with a USB charging cable for the Dualshock 4. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are only available in black at launch.
