Ending the usual game of "will they or won't they," Motorola has finally confirmed that its flagship Moto X handset will receive Android 4.4 KitKat.
Speaking at the Moto G launch event Wednesday, Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside confirmed that Android 4.4 KitKat would be heading to the Moto X handset "in a matter of weeks."
Naturally, this doesn't give Moto X owners much to go on, but judging from previous Android rollouts, expect Android 4.4 KitKat to roll out before the end of 2013. It's hard to imagine Motorola missing out equipping its new flagship phone with the latest operating system for the busy holiday season.
Android 4.4 KitKat brings a number of new features that will pair nicely with the Moto X. On the surface there's the usual aesthetic change — more colors, more space, a cleaner look — but it's what Google integrated into KitKat that will really boost the phone's performance.
Google has gone ahead and inserted Google Now into more Android functions than ever before, including the dialer. What this means is that the Moto X's excellent voice commands and Google Now integration will get an even bigger boost. For fans of this side of the Moto X, KitKat will be a real treat.
