There are still many HTC One owners around the world in the midst of receiving Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but the whole lot should be in for a nice treat in the coming weeks. According to one insider, Android 4.4 KitKat for the HTC One has already entered testing phases.

HTC modder LlabTooFeR, well known for his insider information concerning HTC firmwares, recently took to Twitter to answer a question from a fellow Tweeter about any Android 4.4 KitKat plans HTC had.

It's no surprise the Google Play edition of the HTC One will be getting Android 4.4 KitKat first. The Google Play edition runs stock Android, without HTC's Sense user interface layered on top, and was released for the sole purpose of giving an option to customers who like the HTC One, but don't want to wait so long for Android updates. It's not perfect (Google Nexus devices still beat Google Play editions to the latest Android version), but it does shave weeks off the wait time.

As for the "sense version," that simply refers to normal HTC Ones. This includes carrier variants and unlocked models running the Sense user interface.

While no exact release dates are available, there is one date to look forward to: the end of January 2014. Soon after Android 4.4 KitKat was released at the end of October, HTC America President Jason Mackenzie revealed that he expects all HTC Ones to be running KitKat within 90 days. A quick look at the calendar shows that to be the end of January.
