It looks like owners of the recently-released LG G2 smarpthone will have a chance to snag Android 4.4 KitKat before 2013 ends — that is, if one French carrier's update page is correct.
Thanks to some keen eyes on the Internet, French wireless service provider SFR was spotted posting on its software updates page that the LG G2 would receive Android 4.4 KitKat sometime in November or December. No exact date was provided, although SFR did state it would roll out over the air. This is applicable only to the French carrier, but it's reasonable to assume that the update's release would coincide with a larger rollout in other regions around the world, especially in the rest of Europe.
The information was posted Nov. 5; however, the information has since changed. A look at the same SFR update page Nov. 9 shows that SFR has removed the Android version and the estimated release time frame from the software update page. Instead, it merely lists the LG G2 and says an update is planned to roll out over the air.
Of course, given the circumstances, it's still highly likely that Android 4.4 KitKat will land on the device before 2013 is over. The LG G2 sports a similar architecture to the Google Nexus 5, a phone that was also designed by LG and already has Android 4.4 KitKat running on it. Given the amount of smartphone sales that take place over the busy holiday season, you can bet a company like LG will want its G2 sporting the shiniest new operating system.
