The Google Nexus 5 is still fresh out the gate, but it looks like those wishing the phone had more hands-free features will get their wish granted soon. According to Wired magazine, the Nexus 5 is going to receive more voice command options Nov. 13.
The update hasn't been officially announced, but Wired mentions the date in a mini-review of the Nexus 5 titled "One Week With the Nexus 5." Wired mentions many of the new voice-activated features the Nexus 5 sports, such as being able to say "OK Google" on the homescreen to call people and launch apps, but goes on to state that the real meat is soon to arrive.
"But the stuff Google says is coming November 13 is the real gravy, and it's a shame it isn't already ladled on. One of those things is the ability to ask you questions - so you might say "text Jennifer" and it will reply "which Jennifer," and then ask you to dictate the message. It's also going to get the ability to search inside applications, and launch them to complete tasks for you. So, you might search for a restaurant, and an option in the results shows up for OpenTable, which you'll be able to fire up and make a reservation. It's also going to use location cues to drop cards into Google Now, even more so than it does currently. At Yellowstone it will show you geyser times, for example. Sadly, none of this stuff was lit up yet, so I wasn't able to test it. I'm not dinging the phone for that (and it's not getting any extra credit), but given how interesting these features are, it's kind of crazy the phone launched without them."
Given that all we have to go on is a simple mention by Wired magazine, there's bound to be some more nifty options tucked into the update. Once again, Google has not confirmed anything, so Nexus 5 owners will simply have to keep their eyes peeled — all that's certain is that Google, and now the Nexus 5, seem to be headed in a more hands-free direction.
