The 5.5 percentage point increase for Windows Phone almost tied for the highest increase among other smartphone operating systems in France, only losing out to Google Android.
By the time September concluded, Windows Phone accounted for 10.7 percent of the smartphone platforms. During the same period in 2012, Windows Phone garnered 5.2 percent of the market share.
With the 5.5 percent increase, the Microsoft mobile platform improved its ranking as the third-most utilized smartphone operating system in France instead of fourth place during the three-month period ending in September 2012.
Windows Phone, however, could not dethrone Android or Apple's iOS.
Android maintained its first place position with 68.2 percent of the French smartphone operating system market share. For Android, the Google mobile platform saw an increase of 5.9 percentage points from the 62.3 percent it received during the three months ending in September last year.
iOS encountered a minor slip in their market share percentage between the three months concluding in September 2012 and the same period this year. The Apple mobile platform tripped by 0.5 percentage points, but it did not affect its second place rank. iOS accounted for 15 percent of the smartphone market share.
BlackBerry fell by 2.7 percentage points. BlackBerry ranked fourth with 4.7 percent, which is down from the 7.4 percent last year.
