The latest MacBook Pro Retinas from Apple haven't been available for very long, but the company is proving responsive to an early bugs found on The MacBook Pro Retina models.
For the MacBook Pro Retina 13-inch model, the company is releasing a firmware update that fixes a problem some users have experienced with the laptop's input system.
The MacBook Pro Retina EFI Update v. 1.3 can be found here or using the Mac App Store updates system. Apple released it for the 13-inch MacBook Pro from late 2013, after an issue arose where the diminutive MacBook Pro's keyboard and track pad would become unresponsive. The minimum system requirements for the update are Mac OS X 10.9 - MBP111.88Z.0133.B00.1309220923 (EFI 0133.00). The update is under 5MB.
Apple also released another firmware update, EFI Update v. 1.2, for the MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch model. It fixes a performance issue with the laptop's graphics system, which has been rare, but has still affected enough computers to warrant the fix. Some MacBook Pro 2013 variants with NVIDIA graphics had a problem where the graphics processor's performance was limited after a system wake or boot. This update is available via Software Update on OS X.
The new Macbook Pro Retina for late fall 2013 features Intel Haswell processors, longer battery life, and faster performance. The 13-inch MacBook Pro is under 3.5 pounds, making it lighter than its predecessor, and has a 2.4GHz dual-core Core i5 chip from Intel with built-in Iris graphics. The 15-inch model has a Core i7 Haswell processor with either built-in Iris Pro graphics or a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GPU. The latter models are the variants that need the EFI Update v. 1.2.
